Michele Pawk Joins Prayer for My Enemy at Playwrights Horizons

Tony winner Michele Pawk has joined previously announced stars Victoria Clark, Jonathan Groff, Cassie Beck and Skipp Sudduth in Playwrights’ Horizons forthcoming New York premiere of Craig Lucas’ Prayer for My Enemy. Directed by Bartlett Sher who collaborated with Lucas and Clark on The Light in the Piazza, the play will begin previews on November 14 at Playwrights Horizons’ Mainstage Theatre and will open on December 9. The limited off-Broadway engagement is scheduled to run through December 21.

In Prayer for My Enemy, father Austin Sudduth is watching his nature shows and trying to keep from falling off the wagon, mother Karen Pawk is keeping an eye on Austin, son Billy Groff is just back from Iraq, and pregnant daughter Marianne Beck is upset about the state of her marriage to Tad, Billy’s childhood friend who may still harbor a crush on him. As an enigmatic outsider, Dolores Clark, relates a tale of taking responsibility for her ailing mother, an American family’s long-held secrets are dragged to the fore in what may be its final reckoning. A sixth cast and final member will be announced in the coming weeks.

Pawk won a Tony Award for her performance in Hollywood Arms and has appeared on Broadway in Cabaret, Crazy for You, Mamma Mia!, Chicago, Seussical, Triumph of Love, Losing Louie and Mail. Her off-Broadway credits include The Paris Letter, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, Reefer Madness, After the Fair, Hello Again, Merrily We Roll Along and john & jen and the New York City Opera production of A Little Night Music.

The production will feature scenic design by John McDermott, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Stephen Strawbridge and sound design by Scott Lehrer.

Prayer for My Enemy is the first of two Lucas works that will receive their New York premiere this season. His play The Singing Forest will be produced at the Public Theater next spring.
